Plantbased in the Pacific Northwest

The relationship you have to food and yourself will always be without judgement here. While there might be “vegan” in the title, everyone is welcome. That’s right, even meat eaters. People who are veggie-curious, plant based, flexitarian, vegan, and everything in between. Be it for the environment, for health, or for animals, I believe what each of us puts into our bodies is a personal journey. There is no right or wrong, no one-size-fits-all way to eat.

When I started Raincoast Vegan it was part of a challenge to try one new vegan spot a month in the Vancouver area to support our local businesses during a hard time in the restaurant industry. Since then it has grown to include trying new vegan food, sharing my own personal recipes, and a little of what’s inspiring me at the moment.

Be warned… we’re also going to get political. As a former 90s Riot Grrrl who currently likes to spend more time in Birkenstocks than mosh pits, I have what my mother refers to as “opinions”. At a time when food insecurity is high, the climate crisis is wrapped in red tape, and bodies are suddenly up for debate it’s impossible to detach our daily lives from politics. I am a vegan woman in a fat body, with a chronic disease, experiencing Long Covid. My mother is right, I have opinions.

There will also be joy. Food to me is an expression of love. One that has expanded with learning to garden. Sharing stories and recipes about food is a passion of mine, and I look forward to building a community with people all over who love it as much as I do.
